Is there financial assistance available for hearing aids?

Yes, there are a number of avenues available to you to help pay for the cost of a hearing aid. These include:

Welfare partners grant

If you are eligible Welfare partners can give a fixed maximum of €500 for each hearing aid every 4 years. Speak to our Clinical Audiologists For more information please visit www.welfare.ie

What are the conditions?

Hearing aids must be provided by suppliers who have a contract with the Department of Social Protection. Full details of the eligibility conditions for the grant may be obtained from the Department website.

Income tax relief

Taxpayers can claim under the MED 1 Scheme for prescribed medical appliances, including hearing aids. This includes income taxpayers where their dependant relative is purchasing a hearing aid. Full details and conditions can be found at the Revenue Commissioners’ website at www.revenue.ie

Private medical insurance

Some insurers have benefits for hearing aids. You claim directly from your insurer after you have purchased the hearing aids. This depends on your policy and provider. For more information contact your insurance provider directly.
