Having fitted hearing aids for patients from infants to the elderly, Olwyn has worked with nearly every major hearing aid manufacturer, including advanced bone-anchored hearing aids and cochlear implants. She collaborates with multidisciplinary teams of speech and language therapists, clinical psychologists, and ENT surgeons, providing holistic, patient-centered care. Olwyn has also mentored audiology students at University College Cork (UCC) and lectured at the University of Nottingham.

A significant achievement in Olwyn’s career is her charity work in Peru, where she founded hearing clinics and fitted over 200 hearing aids for individuals in underserved communities. In recognition of her efforts, Olwyn was awarded a certificate of recognition from the Peruvian government for her invaluable contributions to improving the lives of those in need.

Whether you are seeking guidance on hearing aids, or require expert assistance with more complex auditory issues, Olwyn is here to help you hear the world more clearly and improve your quality of life.

Your Questions Answered

What is a qualified audiologist?

A qualified audiologist is a healthcare professional with specialised education and training in diagnosing, treating, and managing hearing and balance disorders. They hold recognised qualifications, follow best practices, and adhere to professional regulations.

Why should I choose a qualified audiologist over other providers?

Unlike unregulated providers, qualified audiologists have extensive training in audiology, ensuring accurate diagnoses and evidence-based treatments. They prioritise patient-centred care and offer tailored solutions for your hearing health.

How does an audiologist differ from a hearing aid dispenser?

A hearing aid dispenser is typically trained only to fit and sell hearing aids, whereas an audiologist is qualified to perform comprehensive diagnostic tests, assess complex hearing issues, and provide medical referrals when necessary.

What are the risks of choosing an unqualified provider?

Unqualified providers may lack the necessary skills to properly diagnose hearing conditions, leading to incorrect treatments, inappropriate hearing aid fittings, and missed medical issues that require further attention.

How can I verify if my audiologist is qualified?

Look for recognised professional credentials, such as university-level audiology degrees, membership in professional bodies, and adherence to best practice guidelines. At Medico Audiology Services, all our audiologists are fully qualified and committed to providing the highest standard of care.
